In 2000, the member States of the UN committed themselves to creating a more peaceful, prosperous and just worlds to free our fellow men, women and children from the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty for making the right to development a reality for everyone and to ridding the entire human race from wants. Again the Joint Declaration has outlined eight goals as the Millennium Development Goals. Eradication of Poverty and Hunger is at the top of the list. Defining food security is an exercise in itself. Improved food security originates directly from government policies that integrate the food economy into a development strategy.
This volume is the outcome of workshop in Problems and Prospects of Food Procurement and Distribution in Odisha held on 19th February 2006 in Bhubaneswar. A number of articles contributed by eminent scholars and personalities form the bed of this book.
